Around the grounds - Round 1 - BMRJCA 2016/17 Season

Forty-five Yallingup-Oddbods Cricket Club Juniors took to the field to start the season. YOBS are fielding three sides, one in each of the Busselton Margaret River Junior Cricket Association grades, as well as putting two T20 Blast teams together, The YOBS Warriors and the YOBS Scorchers.

The T20 Blast is a fun and active format for kids new to the game to have a hit around and learn the fundamental skills of cricket. For the experienced cricketers they can hone their current talents and enjoy the mateship and team spirit the game produces. This format requires dedicated and committed parents and there are some fantastic parents supporting our club at this level.

The Under 12’s are being coached by Peter Donnelly and managed by Charmaine Giroud. They look keen and ready for the change of format with only a couple of the boys staying in the Under 12’s from last season. The attitude and enthusiasm around this team was fantastic and their summer looks like an enjoyable one.

Club champion Cameron Snow has taken a large group of boys whom he coached last season through to the Under 14 competition. He is being supported by manager Janet Weed who also managed the team in the 2015/16 Under 12 season. These boys look eager, organised and ready for the challenge against more experienced opposition.

Steve Carrie will lead his chargers into the Under 16 competition after a successful season last year. The Under 16’s will be looking to make the Grand Final two years in a row and have some wonderful experience and a winning culture to help them. This is a brilliant unit who love a joke but take cricket seriously on the field. Stu Luff will be the assistant coach and have his finger on the pulse with technique and tactics.

Our Club Registrar Alina Luff has worked tirelessly in getting the season underway! She has dealt with MyCricket, ordered T20 Blast packs, liaised with countless parents and got the Juniors season off to a seamless start. Her efforts have been incredible!

Thank you to anyone involved in the running, supporting and recruiting for the Juniors this season. A lot of work goes on behind the scene and it highly valued and much appreciated.

Good luck YOBS Cricketers, We are in for a fantastic season.
